Mamata BanerjeeA massive mandate does not guarantee license to crush the sane voices and people’s opinion under the guise of secularism and social harmony. If you want social harmony to be restored in your state, you need to ensure equal treatment for all communities. Who wants violence and riots except for the politicians, who also use a section of media to fulfill their political aspirations? Time has changed now. People cannot be taken for granted anymore.

Mamata Banerjee, who acted as a savior to free West Bengal from the misrule of Left Front, has been winning each and every election without any serious threat from the weak opposition. Even, a Left-Congress alliance could not stop Mamata’s juggernaut in Bengal. The BJP is yet to rise in the state. They are growing, but not in a position to win. Lack of any viable alternatives in the state, has contributed a lot to Mamata’s overwhelming victory. But, is she serious about ensuring equality? Probably not!

Whether it’s Malda or Dhulagarh or the decision to defer Durga Puja (Pride of Bengal Culture) in select areas, Mamata has time and again showed faith in minority appeasement policy, ignoring the concerns and sentiments of Hindus. Protecting minorities is definitely a welcome move, but not appeasement just for the sake of vote bank politics. The undercurrent among the Hindu population in West Bengal, which is gaining momentum with every passing day, may explode someday leading to a situation, which would be difficult for Mamata to handle.

The last thing our great nation wants an Hindu uprising to give a fitting reply to the pseudo-liberals who always take pride to protect the interests of minorities, but remain a mute spectator when Hindus find themselves at the receiving end. If the current trend continues, we may witness a revolution in Bengal, which would not be in the larger interest of the state. Of course, many vested interests would take advantage of the situation by fishing in the troubled waters. But, isn’t it Mamata Banerjee who is clearly responsible for letting the situation go out of hand?

Mamata rose to the fame because of her aggression, confrontational attitude, revolutionary mindset. If she carries such traits, she must not forget that there are many others in Bengal, who have more fire within than her. By resorting to appeasement politics and ignoring the Hindus, she is just trying to trigger a sleeping volcano. Can she handle the situation using her carrot and stick policy. When people hit the streets, neither Mamata nor any leader would be able to stop them. And, it looks imminent now.
