In a First, Supreme Court issues Contempt Notice to Calcutta High Court Judge CS Karnam
In a first of its kind, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued contempt notice to Calcutta High Court Judge CS Karnam for levelling allegations against former judges of the Supreme Court and sitting judges of Madras High Court.
The apex court asked Karnam to appear in person before it on the coming Monday to explain why contempt proceedings be not initiated against him. In addition, it restrained him forthwith from undertaking judicial and administrative work.
A seven-judge bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, comprising Justices Dipak Misra, J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, M B Lokur, P C Ghose and Kurian Joseph also directed Justice Karnan to return all judicial and administrative files in his possession to the Registrar General of the High Court immediately.
